At Lionbridge, language connects people, cultures, and opportunities. We're seeking experienced Spanish Legal Interpreters to join our network of freelance professionals supporting one of the largest federal legal interpretation programs in the United States.

As a Video Remote Interpreter (VRI), you'll provide accurate, impartial interpretation services for federal legal proceedings while working remotely from anywhere in the United States. This flexible freelance partnership allows you to accept prescheduled assignments based on your availability while contributing to meaningful work that helps ensure language access within the U.S. legal system.

Competitive Compensation

$35 USD per hour for scheduled Spanish Video Remote Interpretation (VRI) assignments.

Two-hour minimum payment per completed assignment ($70 USD minimum), even when the assignment lasts less than two hours.

Once onboarded into Lionbridge's freelance interpreter network, Spanish Legal Interpreters may also be eligible for additional telephonic interpretation assignments, providing opportunities to expand their work with Lionbridge.

What You'll Do

• Provide professional Spanish-English consecutive interpretation during federal legal proceedings via secure video platforms.
• Deliver accurate, impartial, and culturally appropriate interpretation while maintaining the highest professional standards.
• Interpret communications involving judges, attorneys, court personnel, government representatives, and individuals requiring language access.
• Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to established interpreter ethics and professional conduct standards.
• Accept prescheduled assignments based on your availability while consistently delivering exceptional service.
   

Required Qualifications

• Minimum one (1) year of professional judicial, legal, or court interpreting experience required.
• Must reside within the United States.
• Demonstrated ability to provide professional interpretation services in legal or judicial settings.
• Exceptional spoken proficiency in both English and Spanish, with the ability to accurately and impartially interpret complex legal conversations and terminology in real time.
• Strong understanding of legal terminology and interpreter ethics.
• Ability to remain impartial, professional, and composed during sensitive legal proceedings.
• Reliable high-speed internet connection.
• Professional computer, webcam, quality headset, and a quiet, private workspace suitable for confidential video interpretation.
   

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, candidates with any of the following backgrounds or credentials are encouraged to apply:

• Federal Court Interpreter Certification
• State Court Interpreter Certification
• Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts (AOUSC) certification
• Certified or Registered Court Interpreter credentials
• ATA (American Translators Association) certification
• Experience as a Federal Court Interpreter, Judicial Interpreter, Spanish Court Interpreter, Legal Interpreter, or Video Remote Interpreter (VRI)
• Experience supporting immigration, civil, criminal, administrative, or other federal legal proceedings
• Previous experience providing interpretation services for U.S. government agencies or courts
