Manager of IT Network Engineering

Remote Role: To be considered, you must live within one hour from our Billerica, MA Data Center

The Manager of Network Engineering is responsible for the Architecture & Design, Implementation, and Production Support of the Lionbridge enterprise network, spanning 60 offices globally and supporting over 6000 employees.

The ideal candidate will possess both leadership and hands-on technical skills and will prefer a balance of both roles in their typical workday. The candidate must be comfortable working independently as well as leading and collaborating with other team members on infrastructure design and troubleshooting activities. Project management, resource planning and excellent communication skills are essential.

What you will do:

Management / Architecture & Design
  • Assume an ownership role of all networking infrastructure & technologies, including but not limited to: SD-WAN, routing, switching, firewalls, load balancing, security, network management, customer / enterprise VPNs.
  • Maintain a direct hands-on approach with the technology. This role will be a true hybrid role that will be a hands-on Sr. Engineer first, and also a Leader.
  • Keep up with industry technologies, identify and advocate solutions for continuous improvement.
  • Implement technologies, reporting and process standards to optimize operational efficiency, availability and performance.
  • Collaborate with the Global Technology organization to deliver and support internal and customer-facing applications.
  • Create project and implementation plans and manage ongoing project initiatives. Coordinating internal and external project resources as needed.
  • Define processes and supervise all change management activities associated with the network infrastructure.
  • Create and maintain processes and documentation for incident and problem management.


Production Operations
  • Proactive monitoring of all network infrastructure.
  • Supervise resolution of production outages.
  • Perform routine network administration, maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Provide escalation-level support to remote offices and the corporate helpdesk.
  • Participate on project teams and provide network infrastructure services to other IT teams.
  • Create and maintain detailed network infrastructure diagrams and documentation.
  • Provide after hours on-call support as needed.


To be successful, you will have:

  • 10+ years progressive experience as a network engineer or related discipline with 3+ years in a technical lead, supervisor or managerial role.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent job experience in related field
  • Deep knowledge of enterprise networking technologies; communication protocols, routing protocols, switching, firewalls, load balancing, SDWAN, etc.
  • Hands on, advanced troubleshooting and technical skills.
  • Very specific and current, hands-on experience with the following technologies:
    • Cisco Firepower Anyconnect (required)
    • Checkpoint firewalls (required)
    • F5 Load Balancers (required)
    • SolarWinds (required)
    • Versa SD-WAN and experience (preferred)
  • Experience supporting a mixed Linux & Windows Server environment with a working knowledge of Windows Active Directory and related technologies.
  • Excellent technical written and verbal communications skills.
